A practical sourcing brief for pet products in Egypt.
For Egyptian importers, distributors, wholesalers and pet brands that need product, packaging and document questions separated clearly from destination approval.
Name the importer and the channel before choosing the range.
An Egypt project may serve veterinary clinics, specialist pet retail, wholesalers, e-commerce, a brand launch or institutional purchasing. The buyer should identify the importer of record or local commercial owner, the channel, the cities or territory to be covered and whether the first order is a test range or a repeat programme. This information helps the manufacturer discuss the right formats and packaging instead of sending a broad answer to a narrow problem.
This page is not an Egyptian registration or approval claim. Product classification, ingredients, claims, label languages, customs, importer duties and shipment documents must be checked for the chosen SKU and transaction. A local adviser or importer should confirm what the route requires before artwork, purchase commitment or launch communication.
Build a range around the intended Egyptian customer.
Malt paste may be evaluated as a cat or dog format with a specific tube and use context. Tablets, powders, liquids and oils can support different product concepts, pack sizes and channel conversations. Explain whether the buyer wants a professional range, everyday pet care, complementary feeding, treats or another non-medical format. Use the product capabilities and relevant buyer guide to create a precise request.
For mixed categories such as dog food, cat food, treats or shelter procurement, create a separate line in the brief for each family. The product description, composition, label, pack configuration and evidence request may not be interchangeable. A clear SKU list allows the buyer, manufacturer and importer to see which questions are common and which are product-specific.
What to put in an Egypt project file.
A first request should include:
- Importer or buyer entity, channel and intended territory
- Species, product family, use context and format
- Pack size, language plan, artwork status and case configuration
- Initial quantity, annual forecast and target launch or shipment date
- Sample objective and who will evaluate it
- Required product, commercial, testing and shipment documents
Plan Arabic, English and pack review deliberately.
Ask the Egyptian importer and label reviewer which language and mandatory-information route applies to the selected product. Do not assume that an English artwork can be transferred directly or that an Arabic translation alone completes the review. Product name, intended use, directions, composition or ingredient information, company details, pack content and claims should be controlled in the correct SKU version.
The packaging conversation should cover stock or custom components, bottle or tube choice, labels, cartons, units per case, storage and transit. Put the pack assumptions next to the quantity and timing assumptions in the quote request. If a component, translation or review is still open, record it as open rather than promising a fixed delivery date.
Verify the Egypt importer and broker document list.
The importer or broker should define the documents needed for the actual product and shipment. Build the file from commercial invoice and packing list inputs, product specification, ingredient or composition information where relevant, label and packaging files, testing or batch evidence, origin and transport inputs. The final list can differ by product and transaction, so the country page should start the question rather than answer it with an unsupported checklist.
The Quality page presents ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2018 and ISO 10002:2018 exactly within their stated animal-feed wholesaling scope. They are not Egypt authorization, FDA registration, product approval or proof of claim acceptance. Keep the manufacturer’s company evidence separate from the importer’s product and customs file.
The Egypt project questions that prevent expensive assumptions.
Before a first commercial call, the buyer should separate what is already decided from what still needs review for Egypt. A product name is not the same as a product classification. A catalogue photograph is not the same as an approved label. A factory unit price is not the same as a landed cost. Write those distinctions into the brief so that the manufacturer, importer, broker and local adviser can respond to the same version of the project.
Ask the export desk to identify which answer is a confirmed capability, which answer is a project assumption and which answer depends on a component, sample, specification, label review or destination document. This makes a preliminary conversation useful without turning an early estimate into a promise. It also gives the buyer a better basis for comparing suppliers that may use the same words for different formats, quantities or responsibilities.
A practical comparison should place product, packaging, quantity, delivery terms, document scope and timing next to one another. If one quotation assumes stock packaging and another assumes a custom component, the two numbers are not like-for-like. If one buyer asks for a sample with a label while another asks for a technical sample only, the timing and evaluation criteria are different. Record these conditions before selecting a route.
The country page is therefore a commercial starting point, not a market-entry certificate. For the selected SKU, the buyer should maintain a short responsibility matrix: manufacturer for agreed production information; buyer or brand for artwork ownership; importer for local entry requirements; broker for customs interpretation; and qualified local advisers for regulatory or claim questions. The matrix can be updated as the project moves from enquiry to sample, quotation, production and shipment.
- Confirmed product format and intended use
- Open ingredient, composition or specification questions
- Approved pack assumption and units per case
- Label language, artwork owner and reviewer
- Sample objective and acceptance criteria
- Quantity, repeat expectation and timing dependencies
- Importer, broker and destination document owners
- Incoterm, port and landed-cost assumptions
From Egypt enquiry to an aligned shipment file.
Enquire
Share the importer profile, channel, species, format, package, quantity, timing and documents requested.
Qualify
Review product and packaging fit while the local importer confirms classification, label and entry questions.
Evaluate
Use samples or a scoped quote to compare the selected route, not a generic catalogue price.
Prepare
Align artwork, specifications, quantity, commercial documents, transport inputs and the final importer handoff.
